Mums in Style: Post Baby Style

New mum (of number 2) Fashion Editor and Blogger, Erica Davies talks to us about post baby style.

As a Fashion Editor, you would think I had the whole ‘style’ thing sorted. But, on maternity leave with baby number 2, I’ve realised one thing; I’m great at dressing for work (dress, cool jewellery, shoes = sorted) and absolutely rubbish at casual. Plus, as most mums know, it takes time to lose the baby weight so fashion just isn’t that fun post-birth.

Taking a few lessons learned from first time around, this time I’ve worked out you don’t need to lose your style just because you’re up to your eyes in nappies. I am a firm believer in sticking to colour palettes if you’re on a budget, want a multi-tasking wardrobe, and know what suits.

Mint Velvet make that really easy, with a clever mix of neutrals and on-trend shades of coral and green. Plus, the leather jackets are brilliant.

The sheer trench

I absolutely love this trench – which is easy to throw on over a casual look or a smart dress. I wear mine with tapered leg khaki trousers, a Breton top and nude ballet pumps. It has taken me from play dates to a launch party – I just added more make-up for the party!

The patterned shift dress
Patterned dresses are brilliantly versatile pieces for your wardrobe. I still love the dress over trouser look, which extends the life of those frocks you might have got a bit sick of. This pretty style works over a sheer long-sleeve tee, belted and worn with a vintage leather jacket for a smart day-look.
